California Governor race Meg Whitman vs. Jerry Brown

Whitman went to Princeton University, where she got a degree in economics. Then she went to Harvard Business School, where she got her MBA in 1979. Her first professional job was as a brand assistant at Procter & Gamble in Ohio. She moved to San Francisco, California where she worked at the consulting firm Bain & Co.’s, she worked there eight years, and became a vice president. Whitman has been an executive at Disney, Stride Rite, FTD and Hasbro. She helped with forming eBay into the company it is today, when she met the manager of the company in 1997 and became “CEO”. She had been named one of the most influential women in business in 2004 and 2005. Mitt Romney asked Meg to serve as his National Finance Co-Chair during the 2008 presidential primary campaign. After Gov. Romney exited the race, Senator John McCain asked Meg to serve as National Co-Chair for McCain-Palin.
Stance on the issues
Immigration- Whitman wants to secure the border. She is against any type of amnesty. She will help with controlling illegal immigration by establishing an "economic fence" against illegal immigration, conducting inspections of workplaces suspected of hiring illegal immigrants, she will use the National Guard to help secure the order, she will ban admissions of undocumented immigrants to colleges, she will also prohibit giving driver's licenses to undocumented immigrants. Whitman also wants to sue the federal government to recoup prison costs for undocumented immigrants. (this policy follows mostly that of the GOP)
Budget- To solve California's budget crisis Whitman will control the rapid growth in state spending, improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the state government, solve California's pension crisis, bring real welfare reform to California, Bring efficiency to state revenue, and save $15 Billion dollars on the budget. To do this she plans to institute a strict spending cap, defend the two-thirds budget requirement, and turn Sacramento into a part-time legislature this means that the people in the legislature in Sacramento will be payed less because they are working less.(GOP)
Education- To fix education, Whitman will make sure the schools have bigger budgets by making sure that the money that is supposed to reach them does so, statistics show that 40% of the money that is supposed to go to the schools goes to bureaucracy and other places and only 60% of it reaches the classroom. (GOP)
Jobs- Whitman wants to provide job creating tax cuts. Taxes she wants to eliminate are, the small business start up tax, the factory tax, the state tax on capital gains. She also promotes investments for the agriculture industry (This policy follows the GOPs because of all the tax cuts that will help create jobs)
Public Safety- Whitman will support California's "Three Strikes and your out law" this is used against violent criminals who commit the same type of crime three times then they are put into prison for life. She will defend the death penalty in California, she will oppose any new gun control laws, build new prison and oppose early release, and lastly oppose the legalization of marijuana. (GOP's stance)
Brown (D)
He attended the University of California at Berkeley in 1960. He received his B.A. degree in Classics the next year and then entered Yale Law School, where he graduated in 1964. Brown worked as a law clerk to California Supreme Court Justice Mathew Tobriner, Worked for the prestigious law firm, Tuttle & Taylor in Los Angeles. In 1969, Brown was elected to the Los Angeles Community College Board of Trustees, placing first in a field of 124. In 1970, he was elected California Secretary of State. During his term, he forced legislators to comply with campaign disclosure laws, found out about President Nixon’s use of falsely notarized documents to improperly earn a large tax deduction and helped pass the California Fair Political Practices Act. Brown argued before the state Supreme Court and won against Gulf, Mobile and Standard Oil for election law violations. Brown was elected Governor in 1974 and reelected in 1978, by over one million votes. California significantly reduced taxes and built up the largest state surplus ever. His eight years in office are generally considered among the most innovative in California history.

Budget- Brown does not have any current plans listed, but plans to use his past experience as Governor, Mayor, and Attorney General to help him fix California's budget.
